Open access (OA) refers to the free, immediate, online availability of research outputs such as journal articles or books, combined with the rights to use these outputs fully in the digital environment. Open access is a new step in the digital publishing arena where the merit of research and academic contributions by the author is made available online without any specific fees.

Olites has strictly followed the principles of OA from the time of its inception thereby type providing complete support to all previously held initiatives towards the OA concept, thus publishing all its articles in the Journals which were freely accessible. We strongly believe that research information and results should be shared often among the researchers so that it leads to future research through wide use of its results.

A Publication Is Considered As Open Access When,
 
Its content is universally and freely accessible, at no cost to the reader, via the Internet or otherwise; The author or copyright owner irrevocably grants to all users, for an unlimited period, the right to use, copy, or distribute the article, on condition that proper attribution is given; It is deposited, immediately, in full and in a suitable electronic form, in at least one widely and internationally recognized open access repository committed to open access

Since Open Access publishing allows the permanent restoration of scientific data through digital copies, other than the constraint of Internet access, scientists around the world can freely share information and collaborate to enhance the growth of science. Open access (OA) journals are scholarly journals that are available online to the reader “without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. They remove price barriers (e.g. subscription, licensing fees, and pay-per-view fees) and most permission barriers (e.g. copyright and licensing restrictions). While open access journals are freely available to the reader, there are still costs associated with the publication and production of such journals. Some are subsidized, and some require payment on behalf of the author.

Types of Open Access Journals
  • Green – refers to self-archiving generally of the pre or post-print in repositories
  • Gold– refers to articles in fully accessible open access journals
  • Hybrid– Sometimes called Paid Open Access
